What exit did they rob? The least used on the NJ Turnpike

Publish date: 2024-05-25

Say you were going to hold up a toll collector on the New Jersey Turnpike: What’s the last exit you’d choose? Well, a trio of drive-through bandits hit Exit 15X — better known as “the exit to nowhere” — and very likely got little. It’s like a bad Jersey joke.

They wore bandanas and dark sunglasses while pointing what looked like guns at the stunned toll takers before making off with an undisclosed amount of cash, authorities said. They also hit Exit 16E, which does more than its share of business — though not in the wee-wee hours of Sunday.

The question now is how quickly police will find the crew, which had three cars — all caught on a string of cameras designed to deter toll cheats.

There couldn’t have been more than a couple hundred bucks at 15X, which leads to the railroad station, some warehouses and a new apartment building.

One of the cars had been hijacked before dawn, authorities said, adding that there were no injuries. Anyone with information about the robberies or the carjacking is asked to call State Police at: (973) 344-1704.
