UPMC lifting temporary masking policy

Publish date: 2024-10-08

Officials with UPMC announced that the hospital system will soon be lifting its temporary masking policy, which had been reinstated in December in response to a rise in respiratory illness cases.

According to a UPMC spokesperson, the policy will be lifted, beginning Feb. 29th.

"Each virus is still present in our communities and can infect, creating difficulties for some. Staff, patients, support persons and visitors are still encouraged to wear masks, and some specific locations may require masking."

Officials say they have seen a recent decrease in virus cases, such as RSV and COVID, prompting the policy to be revisited.
