UPMC Altoona hosting 'healthy living fair' this weekend

UPMC Altoona will be hosting a "healthy living fair" on Saturday, in the lower level of the Blair County Convention Center.

The health fair runs from 9 a.m. until noon and admission is free.

The event will feature over 20 specialists talking about osteoporosis screening measures, mammography and more.

They will also be partnering with the Altoona AMBUCS to provide $65 vouchers for comprehensive blood screenings.

Health practitioners stress that early detection is key to providing better outcomes for most conditions; and the reduced cost blood tests are on the front lines of being able to detect future problems.

“Preventative health is something that not many people participate in. Our opportunities that we have, especially with our partnership with AMBUCS that we had over the years, is really wonderful to take advantage of this reduced cost for screening blood tests.”

At 10 a.m., Dr. Burwell will be conducting a talk about preventative medicine and the highest diagnoses for death rates in our community.
