Thousands Raised For Man Shot During Botched Robbery In Philadelphia

Anthony "Bubs" Pierson was walking home from the Ukrainian Club in Fairmount around 2 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, said his cousin Monica on GoFundMe.

When he got to the corner of North 23rd and Aspen Streets, "two to three men" hopped out of a car and began robbing him at gunpoint, Monica wrote.

"Bubs was pistol-whipped in his head multiple times before being shot in the right side of his abdomen," she said.

Nearby police officers whisked Pierson to Jefferson Medical Center where he was placed in "critical but stable condition," the department told Daily Voice. He immediately underwent emergency surgery, and doctors were able to remove the bullet from his body, according to Monica.

"But, it's going to be a long road to recovery, and we'd like to help Bubs in any way that we can," she wrote.

To that end, Monica's GoFundMe has raised nearly $8,500 in less than 24 hours. The money, she says, will help keep her cousin afloat in the immediate future as he remains out of work.

Elsewhere online, friends and loved ones wished Pierson a speedy recovery.

As of Tuesday, July 25, no arrests have been made in the assault, police told Daily Voice.
