Syosset Couple Killed In Wrong-Way Crash ID'd: 'The World Is A Darker Place Without You'
Married couple Ismenia and Odalis Ureña, of Syosset and both age 37, were the victims of the Laurel Hollow crash that occurred on Saturday, Aug. 12, Nassau County Police said.
At approximately 12:30 a.m. on that day, 32-year-old Sotirios Spanos of Syosset was traveling eastbound on Northern Boulevard.
He was near the vicinity of Moores Hill Road when his SUV crossed over the yellow divider and collided with the Ureña’s Ferrari, which was traveling west.
Ismenia was pronounced dead at the scene, while Odalis, who was driving the car at the time of the crash, was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
According to police, Spanos was discovered to be intoxicated at the time of the incident.
“The world is a darker place without you two…my beautiful cousins,” read a Facebook post by Peachi Vane.
According to social media posts by Ismenia, who was a life and nutrition coach, the couple left behind two young children.
"The most perfect mother," an Instagram user recently commented on a video Ismenia shared of her and her children.
"You’ll be so missed."
Spanos was charged with the following:
- Aggravated vehicular homicide;
- Manslaughter, two counts;
- Assault, two counts;
- Driving while intoxicated; and
- Reckless driving.
He pleaded not guilty and is due to reappear in court on Wednesday, Aug. 16.
