The Rookie Season 6 Cast Promotes Lisseth Chavezs Celina Juarez

A Rookie shakeup is on its way. The Rookie Season 6 is set to promote Lisseth Chavez, who plays Officer Celina Juarez, from a recurring role to a series regular. The Rookie is ABC’s police procedural drama following John Nolan, a middle-aged, recently divorced man from Pennsylvania who, after helping police officers stop a bank robbery in his hometown, moves to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a police officer with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

Nolan, who is the oldest rookie with the LAPD, is promoted to a training officer later in the series. Juarez is introduced in Season 6 as Nolan’s enthusiastic new rookie who causes trouble for him as he believes she’s too superstitious. Juarez joins the LAPD to solve the murder and disappearance of her sister. Chavez appeared in a recurring role in 19 of 22 episodes in The Rookie Season 5. She was promoted to a series regular for Season 6, according to Deadline. While Juarez was a fan favorite on The Rookie Season 5, the promotion still came as a surprise to fans given that only a handful of new series regulars have been introduced on the series over the years.

Chavez shared the news with an Instagram post in December 2023. “LETS GOOOOOO!!!!! @therookieabc @abcnetwork,” she captioned a screenshot of Deadline’s article, along with prayer hands and clapping emojis. Nathan Fillion, who plays Nolan and also executive produces The Rookie, commented, “What a fantastic addition to this show. Liz, you are so very good at your job, and a wonderful energy to have around every day. We are all so fortunate to have you.”

LaRoyce Hawkins, who plays Kevin Atwater on NBC’s police procedural drama Chicago P.D., commented, “damn right.” Olivia Swann, who also stars on CBS’ police procedural drama NCIS: Sydney, wrote, T”HAT’S RIGHT!!!!!! Go get ‘em mi pequeña amiga.”

Chavez’s promotion came weeks after the The Rookie cast celebrated filming its 100th episode. “100 episodes! Wow!! Congratulations to the entire cast & crew of @therookieabtc 👏🏽 I’m truly grateful to have joined this amazing family💙#forevergrateful 🥹🫶🏽 let’s go for 100 more #therookie,” Chavez captioned an Instagram photo of her and The Rookie cast with a life-sized police badge that reads: “The Rookie 100.”

Fillion shared his own Instagram video of him on the set of The Rookie with a “100” balloon behind him. “If I seem happy in this photo, it’s because of job satisfaction. If I seem content, it’s because The Rookie just celebrated 100 episodes,” he captioned the video. “For clarity, 100 episodes is a feat that’s really, really, really, really, really hard to accomplish. To top it off, it couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch. To everyone who works to put this show on the air, thank you for all the hard work over these challenging years, and congratulations. To everyone out there who watches, thank you x 100. For those of you who haven’t seen the Rookie yet, you’re in for a treat! 100 treats and counting.”
