Stamford Murder Suspect Nabbed On Day Of Victim's Funeral
Walthrust, of Queens, was found shot multiple times in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked on Garden Street on March 30, police said. He was later transported to Stamford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the murder led police to Bridgeport resident Rashad Evans, 26, who was arrested at the East Avenue Deli in Norwalk at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Friday, April 12. Officers arrested Sellers as he was entering the store and he was taken into custody without incident.
While arresting Sellers, Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin said that officers executed a search warrant at his Bridgeport residence and his family’s home in West Haven. Investigators from Stamford got an assist from officers from the Norwalk, Bridgeport and West Haven police departments.
“In the ensuing 13 days, the Stamford Police Department has worked tirelessly to solve this tragic case,” Conklin said. “Through old fashioned police work and 21st Century policing techniques, we were able to develop a suspect, put him under surveillance, apply for an arrest warrant and multiple search warrants, all of which were executed successfully today.”
Sellers was charged with criminal use of a firearm and murder. He is being held on a $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, April 26 to respond to the charges.
“It is our profound hope that this arrest may give some sense of justice to the victim’s family,” Conklin noted. “It is our hope that today’s arrest has made not just our community safer, but other communities safer as well. This was a crime that occurred in Stamford but was not born here. It is our belief that Stamford was just a location of convenience for these parties to meet and sadly ended in such senseless violence.”
