NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — Sir Paul McCartney stopped into The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Monday night to boost his new children’s book “Hey Grandude” and he sat down for a wide-ranging interview that touched on everything from the Beatles to K-pop group BTS.

The interview started with Colbert recognizing the significance of having McCartney in Ed Sullivan Theater, where the band performed their historic set on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. But McCartney claimed that he didn’t remember exactly where in the studio the performance took place, noting that he and the other members of the group were quite nervous on that historic night.

McCartney then reminisced about the group’s first American tour, noting that the group loved American music and how exciting it was to hear the band’s music on the radio.

McCartney then talked about what it was like to have The Beatles music, in particular, ‘Yesterday’ covered by so many artists. McCartney listed some of the artists who re-recorded the hit, including Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, and Marvin Gaye, who McCartney singled out his favorite cover.

Colbert then mentioned the Korean K-Pop phenoms BTS, who earlier this year, appeared on the Late Show and for their own visit to Ed McMahon Studio, did a little Beatles cosplay. Colbert then elicited a smile from Sir Paul by playing a clip of BTS performing an impromptu rendition of “Hey Jude” during their earlier appearance on Late Night.

McCartney also talked about losing his mother at 14 and how it impacted his future career as a musician and songwriter and added that he often dreams of his days with his former bandmates in the Beatles.
