Johnstown delays re-opening of Inclined Plane due to late parts delivery
Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Johnstown officials announced Wednesday that the reopening of the Inclined Plane has been delayed to next spring.
Officials say the primary reason for delaying the reopening to 2024 is a delay in the delivery of "sheave wheels," which the cables attach to and help pull the car up the tracks.
The transit authority says the last two wheels were supposed to be delivered this week, but officials are now being told that the delivery will be made in mid-June.
"We're very disappointed and frustrated as well because the contractors have not delivered on their deadline," says CamTran executive director Rose M. Lucey-Noll.
The Inclined Plane Rehabilitation Project began last year and was initially supposed to be completed by the end of this summer.
Officials say once the rest of the wheels are delivered and installed, the Inclined Plane must be tested and inspected before given the green light for public use.
“Safety is a primary concern. The diligence of CamTran and its consultants ensured that all testing protocols were satisfied through various checks at each stage of construction due to diligence from CamTran throughout the process," Lucey-Noll added.
The transit authority says they're hoping the wheels arrive on time and there are no more delays, but note that they would rather wait to make sure they're getting the safest product possible.
