Jalen Rose is currently known as the co-host of ESPN Sports talk show ‘Get Up,’ but he was a professional basketball player. He played for six National Basketball Association (NBA) teams, including the Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers and Toronto Raptors. A prolific shooting guard with the Indiana Pacers, Rose led his team to three consecutive Eastern Conference events, which included the 2000 NBA Finals.
He co-founded the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy – a tuition-free high school in Detroit. Rose is also the founder of the Jalen Rose Foundation, known for providing life-changing empowerments to youth. As a result of his uplifting and philanthropic contribution to Detroit, Rose was honored with the Michiganian of the Year Award. He also received the 2016 Mannie Jackson-Basketball Human Spirit Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Jalen Anthony Rose was born in Detroit, Michigan to his father, Jimmy Walker, who passed away in July 2007. His name Jalen, given to him by his mother Jeanne Rose, comes from combining his father James’ name with that of his uncle Leonard. Rose has four siblings and is an American citizen. He attended Southwestern High School in Detroit before enrolling at the University of Michigan.
Rose pursued his career as a basketball player, beginning in college where he rose to stardom following his successes on court. He was a member of the University of Michigan Wolverines’ Fab Five team alongside Ray Jackson, Chris Webber, Jimmy King and Juan Howard. The team is best known for teaching in NCAA Men’s Division 1 in 1992 and 1993.
After graduating from college, Rose was selected by the NBA’s Denver Nuggets during the 1994 NBA draft when he finished 13th overall. After spending two years with the club, the talented basketball player joined the Indiana Pacers, where he played from 1996-2002. While there, he led the team to three consecutive Eastern Conference Finals games with his outstanding performance as a shooting guard that landed him the NBA Most Improved Player Award.
In 2002, Rose joined the Chicago Bulls, where he played for two years. He then went on to play for other NBA clubs like the Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks, eventually ending his career with the Phoenix Suns where he signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract. Throughout his basketball career, Rose has been publicly recognized with the Magic John Award presented to him by the Professional Basketball Writers Association.
Additionally, in 2013 the Indiana Pacers Star was inducted into the Detroit High School Hall of Fame and in 2017 into the University of Michigan Basketball Hall of Fame. After retiring from professional basketball in 2007, Rose landed a job as a sports analyst at ESPN. He currently works as a co-host on a national sports radio show entitled Jalen and Jacoby, which airs on ESPN radio. He also co-hosted the ESPN sports talk show Get Up alongside Mike Greenberg and Michelle Beadle.
Jalen Rose is best known as the founder of Three Tier Entertainment, a brand management and production company. Broadening his horizons, Rose is the author of the New York Times bestseller Give the People What They Want, which was named a Michigan Notable Book in 2016.

As previously mentioned, Jaden Rose’s father, JimmyWalker, was an NBA player who rose to fame as the #1 draft picker. He also starred in the 1972 NBA All-Star Game alongside Jerry West. Jimmy Walker had a surreal relationship with his son as Rose did not have the privilege of meeting him in person. They just spoke on the phone several times. Sadly, Jimmy Walker passed away from lung cancer in July 2017.
The gifted basketball player is married to MollyQerim, who also works at ESPN as the host of First Take. The couple dated for two years before tying the knot on July 20, 2018 when it was a secret wedding. They have two children, a daughter named Gracie Rose and a son, LaDarius. Meanwhile, the former NBA superstar has welcomed a daughter, Maria Christen Rose, with his former girlfriend Maurie Goens.
