How to win at Grand Slam in Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition

Publish date: 2024-05-24

Grand Slam is a piece of side content you can do in Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers. Located on the S.S. Zelbess in Home World, you can take on Janice in three rounds of monster battles. If you decide to challenge her, you’ll be prompted to select three monsters per round, and you aren’t able to reuse monsters.

The easiest, albeit the cheesiest way to win at Grand Slam is by turning on Battle Boosts. When pressing down on the right joystick, Battle Boosts start you off with maximum points for your elements grid and it’ll make enemies always miss their attacks. This allows you to either speedrun through the game with ease or win battles that you’re having a tough time with.

The genuine way to beat Janice at Grand Slam is by using a balanced but strong team of monsters. Considering the point you meet Janice, you may not have the best monsters available. So, you can wait until you progress more into the game and absolutely crush her with powerful monsters.

However, even at this stage in the game, there are a number of combinations that can work. We’ve had luck with using Total Chaos, Lagoonate, Bulb, and Crossbones as some of our picks. To make the best determination on who you should use, here are the monsters that Janice uses in Grand Slam.

RoundMonsters Used
1Beeba (Yellow Innate, 280 HP), Gloop (Blue Innate, 50 HP) Taurminator (Red Innate, 658 HP)
2Cybot (Yellow Innate, 980 HP), Gobledygook (Red Innate, 47 HP), Spearfisher (Blue Innate, 487 HP)
3Airframe(Black Innate, 480 HP), Cassowary (Yellow Innate, 500 HP), Cuscus (Green Innate, 56 HP)

Your biggest threats in all three rounds are Taurminator and Cybot. They can both hit hard, so you’ll need a monster who can take them down easily. If you’re doing Grand Slam at the point in which you’re first on the S.S. Zelbess, the monster you’ll want to take in either fight is Lagoonnate. Lagoonate has a lot of health and can do some nice damage with their Four Kicks element move, which they have multiple of on their grid.
