Eight Cats Killed By Fast-Moving Maryland House Fire
A hot day got a little hotter for dozens of members of the Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department, who had to contend with the heatwave while battling the blaze for an hour and a half on Cemetery Avenue in Wicomico County.
The fire was reported shortly before 5:45 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 4.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal, the incident was sparked when a kitchen stove malfunctioned, which was found by the homeowner, who was able to escape safely with a cellphone; however, it was ultimately reported by a passerby.
It caused an estimated $200,000 in damages. No other injuries were reported.
